Antwerp

Brewery Tivoli in the Pyckestreet, family De Preter, once having three breweries in Antwerp, Bavaro Belge, on the spot where you now can find Delhaize in the Plantin Moretuslei…
At that time they were the prime breweries in Antwerp, now gone in history.

In the beginning of 1900 there were more than 25 breweries in the city of Antwerp, brought to an end in the 1ste World War, because of the fact that the Germans claimed all vehicles and materials.

In 1946 there rested just 27 breweries and most of them disappeared one after the other, due to the changing marketing conditions and big investments.
In Antwerp , beer is brewed only in two places: at De Koninck and in the Home Brewery ‘t Pakhuis. ‘t Pakhuis originally belonged to the family Sterkens, 3th generation of a famous brewery family in the Campines, who created micro-breweries all over the world.

After some years Ed Van den Ouweland, who started in the horeca department, took over the complete business, together with his son.
